They both stunned in dramatic red carpet gowns when they arrived at the VMAs earlier in the evening.

But Rita Ora and Katy Perry went for very different looks as they got changed ahead of the afterparty, turning heads as they made their way through New York.

The British pop star stood out in a slinky red dress as she hitched a ride in an attention-grabbing Rolls Royce, while the Roar singer embraced a racy school-girl look.

RIP singer Rita had certainly stolen the show earlier in the evening as she posed for photos in a Alexandre Vauthier gown complete with a 20ft feathered train.

And she wasn't about to stop there when it came to her eye-catching fashion choices, slipping into a red leather shift dress and matching stilettos for the afterparty.

Rita, who's trying to make a name for herself across the pond in the US, seemed keen to attract as much attention as possible as she left after the ceremony.

Hint of skin: The Roar singer showed off her midriff in the cropped top, and paired the mini-skirt with thigh-high socks

Instead of hopping into a cab to ferry her across town, the singer had ordered herself a white Rolls Royce, proving her VIP status as she hopped in.

But while Rita covered up in the knee-kength dress, fellow pop star Katy Perry opted for a slightly less chic party outfit after ditching her Emanuel Ungaro leopard print gown.

The star was spotted wearing a high-waisted plaid school-girl style skirt, matched with a racy black bralet and thigh-high black socks.

Showing more than a hint of stomach, Katy breezed to her car as she zoomed off to the party, still wearing the gold grill on he teeth.

Looking like she'd taken some style inspiration from the 1990s, she added a studded collar around her neck, and matched her long socks with black biker boots.

Katy, who'd worn her jet black hair up in a chic knot earlier in the evening, let it down for the afterparty, seeming in high spirits as she carried on her night.
